(Updated) Whittier/La Mirada Shooting Spree w/Memorial


Update #1: The carjacked vehicle was located at Amelia Mayberry Park in South Whittier abandoned.

Update #2: Two victims, a male and a female, were shot by an unknown party, both suffering gunshot wounds over Carmenita & 5 Freeway. Both patients were transported to a local hospital, and they match the descriptions of today’s spree suspects. No information is available at this time regarding the new shooter, or whether or not it’s related. Whittier PD will be handling

Starting roughly around 3:00 PM, the Whittier PD responded to a reported shooting in the alley behind a Starbucks located at Whittier Blvd & Colima Rd. Officers arrived to find a male victim down with a gun shot wound. He was transported to UCI Medical Center in unknown condition. Shortly thereafter, a drive by shooting was reported at Colima Road & Lambert Rd. Whittier officers and LASD deputies arrived to find a victim vehicle pulled over after the driver’s window was shot out. The victim avoided being hit by any bullets. Around 3:15 PM, LASD Norwalk deputies responded to the intersection of Alicante Road & Santa Gertrudes Ave in regards to a third shooting. There was at least one victim, possibly two, who were hit after their window was shot out. The victim(s) were transported to UCI in unknown condition. Afterwards, LASD responded to a 4th shooting that occurred at Imperial Hwy & Santa Gertrudes Ave. One male victim driving a beige truck was shot while driving westbound on Imperial. The victim pulled into the CVS Pharmacy parking lot, where he was treated and transported by LA County Fire to UCI. There is believed to be a single carjacked jeep involved in all the shootings, with a male and female inside. Surrounding agencies have been notified regarding the suspect vehicle, and there are at least 4 victims as a result of this shooting spree. Whittier PD and LASD Norwalk will be investigating.

4-30-17 Update: A small memorial for the man who was killed in yesterday’s random attacks was held at Behringer Park in La Mirada. Community, city council members, and deputies gathered to reflect on yesterday’s events and remember the man who was fatally wounded. The first SOT is with Teresa Garcia, a distant relative. The 2nd SOT is with La Mirada’s city mayor, Ed Eng (Pronounced Ang). The video ends with family setting candles out at the corner of the fatal shooting. Updated video below:
