At approximately 6:00 pm on Tuesday, a water main break was reported near Jefferson Avenue and Beucking Drive in the city of Temecula. Units from the Riverside County Fire Department (Cal Fire) and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department arrived and reported a hole in the roadway nearly 20 feet in diameter with a significant amount of water spraying out of it. Jefferson Avenue was immediately shut down to traffic, which is a major thoroughfare connecting the cities of Temecula and Murrieta. Several side roads were also closed, including Beucking Drive and Sanborn Avenue. Crews from the Rancho California Water District responded and were eventually able to shut the water main down shortly before 8:00 pm. It is unknown how many homes or businesses in the area are impacted by the break. Damage is still being assessed and it is unknown how long the roads will be closed.
