Shortly before 3:00 AM, Thursday, San Jose FD responded to reports of a house fire in the 1200 block of Summer Blossom Ave. Initial responding units arrived to find a 2 story home with fire on the exterior, which was spreading into the interior. SJFD mounted a quick and aggressive attack, and got the bulk of the fire knocked down within 10-15 minutes. The fire did spread to the attic, and firefighters were forced to cut into the roof to contain the spread of the fire. The cause of the fire appears to be an ashtray outside the front of the house, which extended to the house. Red Cross has been requested for the residents.
As firefighters were arriving on scene, their ability to fight the fire was hampered by 2 illegally parked cars, one of which (a pickup truck) was blocking the fire hydrant. The second vehicle, a white Lincoln town car, was parked on the corner, with it’s back end sticking out into traffic. As the result, a San Jose Fire Truck clipped the rear of the car, attempting to make access and assist in the fire fight. Damage to both vehicles were minor. Both vehicles were cited by San Jose PD, and unknown at this time if either vehicle will be towed.
