At approximately 2:15 AM, Saturday, CHP San Jose officers attempted to stop a possible DUI driver on Northbound 87 near 101. The male driver failed to yield to officers, and continued Northbound on 101 for approximately 20 minutes. According to Sgt Ivey, CHP Redwood City, the pursuit continued into CHP Redwood City’s area, where officers deployed spike strips at 101 N at Embarcadero, and then brought the pursuit to a conclusion by performing a pit maneuver. The suspect then fled the vehicle, jumping over the center divider and running across Southbound lanes of the 101 freeway (between University and Willow) where he was finally subdued by officers by deploying a taser. The male was then taken into custody without further incident. Menlo Park FPD responded and assessed the suspect, and he was released into the custody of CHP Redwood City.
The pursuit ranged in speed from 40-60 MPH. CHP Redwood City is taking the suspect into custody, but the pursuit will be handled by CHP San Jose, per CHP Sgt Ivey.
