At approximately 2:30 AM, Saturday, Mountain View PD attempted to pull over a silver Mustang on El Camino Real, near Highway 85, when the driver fled from officers after stopping momentarily. The driver fled down ECR at speeds believed to be in excess of 100 MPH, as well as driving on the wrong side of the road, through Mountain View, Sunnyvale, and Santa Clara. The driver then turned onto San Thomas, where he eventually rear ended another driver at a high rate of speed near the intersection of San Thomas and Monroe. He attempted to flee the crash, when Santa Clara Officers stopped his vehicle. The driver scuffled with officers before being taken into custody. One Santa Clara PD officer sustained injuries during the struggle. A total of 3 patients were transported as trauma patients, including the driver of the mustang and his passenger, as well as the driver of the vehicle he struck. The driver will be booked on a number of charges, including evasion in possibly all 3 jurisdictions, Felony Hit & Run, Felony DUI, and resisting arrest. See SOT for more details.
