Shortly after 11:00 PM, Sunday, Santa Clara PD responded to a burglary alarm at 4500 Patrick Henry Dr. Initial responding officers arrived to find the front doors smashed on a large single story commercial building. Officers immediately set up a perimeter, and requested assistance from outside agencies for a Canine. SJPD sent a Canine officer, their Helicopter, and several other officers to assist in the search for a suspect, believed to still be inside the 150,00+ Sq Ft building. According to Sgt Saunders of Santa Clara PD, the search lasted approximately 1 hour, and a male suspect was apprehended at the conclusion, by deploying the dog on the suspect, at approximately 1:00 AM. The suspect attempted to engage the officers before the dog was deployed, and a weapon, believed to be an ice pick, was found next to the man when he was detained. Unknown at this time what property was taken, and a responsible party for the building was on site to help Santa Clara PD with the investigation.
