At approximately 7:15 p.m. Sunday evening, Gilroy Fire Dept responded to reports of a small vegetation fire near Santa Theresa Dr. When crews arrived, the fire was said to be about 10-15 acres. Around midnight the fire had spread to between 40 to 60 acres. At that point CalFire took over the incident along with several units from surrounding counties. Crews continued to battle the fire through the night however when the sun came up temperatures increased causing the fire to spread to approximately 130 acres and is 10% contained.
Some local residents continued to enjoy their day playing golf as choppers flew overhead carrying large buckets of water. Other residents were uneasy and feared that their homes may be in danger and they will be forced to evacuate. Currently no structures have been damaged and of now there have been no evacuations.
CalFire along with mutual aid from surrounding counties will continue in their efforts to contain the fire.
