The driver of a white GMC pickup truck used for pool maintenance and containing pool cleaning chemicals struck a dark grey Subaru with Alaskan plates just before noon at the intersection of Cole Grade Road and Cool Valley Road. Cole Grade Road was closed and remains closed at this time in both north and south directions and travel on Cool Valley Road is limited to residential traffic only. The Subaru operator was attempting to make a left hand turn on to Cool Valley Road when the GMC pickup which was traveling north on Cole Grade Road t-boned the smaller vehicle. The driver of the of the Subaru was transported to Palomar Medical Center, Escondido with major injuries according to Valley Center Fire Captain Phil Carreon. Information regarding the condition of the driver of the pickup truck was not available at this time. The GMC vehicle contained muriatic acid and chlorine used to clean swimming pools of which none had combined and appeared to be confined to the immediate area of the accident. It is unknown at this time if alcohol and or drugs were a factor in this accident. No further information is available at this time as the incident remains under further investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
