California Highway Patrol received a call about 5:20 p.m. that an vehicle had gone off a cliff in a very remote area of Rice Canyon Road. When they arrived on scene they discovered a Chevy Cruze about 100 ft. down a ravine. Both the driver and his passenger were trapped in the wreckage. North County Fire as well as a unit from Rainbow fire were quickly on scene and extricated both passenger and driver from the vehicle and to an awaiting ambulance. Rice Canyon Road was closed to both north and south traffic. Upon examination it appeared that the driver and his passenger suffered on minor injuries. It did not appear that alcohol and or drugs were a factor in this accident but speed and failure to negotiate a very sharp curve in the road. This particular area of Rice Canyon has been the scene of fatal accidents in the past per the CHP.
