Cal-Fire and Rincon Fire responded to a report of a vehicle going over a embankment on the East Grade of Mt. Palomar at about 4:00 a.m. this morning. The driver of the vehicle appeared not to have been able to negotiate a turn near the 10.6 mile marker while traveling west on the East Grade and careened over the side of the road and down about 300 feet from the roadway into very heavy brush. A crew from Cal-Fire hacked their way through the heavy brush to reach the driver and had to extricate him from the wreckage. Miraculously the driver sustained only minor cuts and bruises. It took about 2 1/2 hours for the the team of firefighters and paramedics to get the victim back up the very steep embankment and on to the roadway. California Highway Patrol is still conducting their investigation and no further information is available.
