Two people are in jail this morning after CHP caught them in a stolen vehicle using high tech new license plate readers. The whole incident started just before 11:00 p.m. last night when a CHP unit was traveling northbound on I-15 just south of highway 395 on normal patrol. The CHP unit was equipped with a new license plate reader (LPR) and as it passed through traffic, it got a “hit” on a stolen vehicle out of San Diego. Multiple CHP and SDSO units got behind the vehicle and pulled the vehicle over at the AMPM on SR-76 at Olive Hill Road. Officers and deputies called the two occupants out of the vehicle using their PA with their guns drawn. Luckily, they were both taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle afterwards turned up drug paraphernalia, marijuana, and a firearm. The man also had a loaded magazine in his pocket at the time he was arrested. The male driver suffered an unknown medical issue shortly after being taken into police custody and had to be taken to a local hospital to be evaluated.
