About 5-7 cars, a Fedex delivery truck, and a Cal Fire Engine were trapped on Highway 9 for nearly 6 hours this evening. CalFire units responded before 7:00 PM to reports of a tree and power lines down in the 22900 block of Highway 9, AKA Big Basin Way, when they, along with the other motorists became trapped by a rock/ mud slide to their South. CHP initiated a hard closure, which will remain in effect well into Wednesday, so that all of the debris, power lines, poles and trees could be removed. Cal Trans workers and a tree removal service cut the pole and tree down, and all parties were able to leave just before midnight. The series of storms have battered Central and Northern California for days. Significant flooding, rock and mud slides, and scores of trees have come down in the last several days as the result of this major storm. Rains are expected through Thursday.
