LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A man leading a church procession in South Los Angeles suffered critical injuries when he was struck by a vehicle that was being chased by police, according to police today and reports from the scene. The crash occurred around 9 p.m. Thursday in the area of 87th Street and Broadway, according to a desk officer at the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Bureau who declined to give details of the crash. The driver was taken into custody during a perimeter search in the area of 90th Street and Stanford Avenue where he abandoned the Nissan Altima he was being chased in, according to NBC4. It wasn’t immediately clear what the suspect was being pursued for or how long the pursuit was. Witnesses at the scene of the hit-and-run told NBC4 the victim, a man in his 50s, was leading a church procession for Holy Thursday when he was struck.
