UPDATE: The female pedestrian was declared deceased at the hospital.
ANAHEIM (CNS) – A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries Thursday when she was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Anaheim. The crash was reported at 5:49 p.m. on East Street at Wilhelmina Street, Sgt. Daron Wyatt of the Anaheim Police Department said. According to an initial investigation, a 2003 Mercedes-Benz E500 driven by an 81-year-old woman was northbound on East Street when the pedestrian walked into the roadway and was struck, Wyatt said. The female, who was not in a crosswalk when she was hit, was in “very critical condition” when taken to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, the sergeant said. The driver stopped at the scene was cooperating with officers, he said. Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected as factors. East Street was closed in both directions between La Palma Avenue and Sycamore Street as police investigated the crash.
